If I'm Southern Italian, why aren't I dark?

I'm nearly forty percent Italian. The other sixty percent are nationalities like Irish, Scottish, and Dutch, which are very pale nationalities. But I'm just about as close to Sicily as I can be without entering Sicilian descent. But I'm white - not pasty white, but more of a "yellow"ish...make sense? But if lots of me is Italian, why am I not dark?
